"Martinez is a trail rider who made a 130 mile horseback trek from Goliad to the State Capitol in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the Tejano Monument. State Representative Kino Flores rode the with Martinez the final day. Arriving in Austin on November 20, 2003, Martinez made stops at Brook and Sanchez Elementary Schools, where school children have been conducting penny drives and delivered the loot to Martinez during the stops."
